Choice Point
One hard moment. Two directions. Your next step.
Nothing is saved unless you choose to, and then only on this device.
Kept on this device
Based on the ACT choice point. The wording here is original.
1 · The moment
What’s happening?
2 · The hooks
What hooks you?
Tap any that show up. Thoughts and feelings both count.
Thoughts
Feelings and urges
3 · The choice point
Two directions
Away moves
What you tend to do when hooked. They make sense. They bring quick relief, and they cost you.
Toward moves
Small actions that look like the person you want to be. Pick one.
My choice point
When this happens, I can still choose.
- The moment
- What hooks me
- Away moves
- My toward move
Hooked is human. The next step is still mine.
Why this works
The choice point is an ACT map of a hard moment. Thoughts and feelings show up and hook us, and we drift into away moves: things that ease the pain fast and pull us from the life we want.
You don’t have to get rid of the hooks to choose differently. Notice them, name them, and take one small toward move with them still there.
Away moves aren’t a verdict on you. Everyone makes them. Seeing them clearly is how you get a choice.
